[Messes upon messes...]

[No one really questioned how Yudain had convinced the undead to stop. Since the last war, he had gotten quite the reputation for strange and miraculous deeds; more pertinent were the questions of how the families would recover, whether there would be enough food in the now-blighted lands to last until the herds came back (if they came back), and the thousand little questions of inheritance that come from mass death. The noble lines of some families had been almost entirely blotted out.]

[There was still enough time, he thought, in the confusion, to formulate an explanation as to how he had managed to sell the freedom of lands he did not rule- when he was not even patriarch of his own family quite yet, may his father live another decade at least- and why they should not try to either kill or crown him for it. The actual prince was far too busy to be of any help, and anyhow, Yudain felt a bit too guilty to ask. Though he certainly had... ideas... regarding their other problems, he had no idea how to enact them.]

[He had not been made for statescraft; at the moment, he felt it best to beg off entirely and collect his thoughts. He had carved out a few hours of time after lunch to sit in his room, alone, eating a large melon slice he'd snatched from the kitchen and watching the wind play in his curtains. The sight made his heart ache a little, knowing that with a little more privacy, he could spread his wings and fly... or at least relax in a different form. He was getting very tired of masculine posturing lately.]
